Noticing that in my first interactive video, there was only words and narration, I added a graph as a visual dimension to follow the multimedia principle. The data will be more meaningful to the audience because a graph representing daily fluctuations can be easily identified.

I made better use of the segmenting principle, where a multiple-choice question was given after each explanation for the measures of central tendency. This allows people to develop a strong foundation of each concept, before building onto new ideas.

The worked examples principle was used, where I explicitly established that the sample of data was based on “customers at Save On Foods.” This helps the audience develop a better understanding of the data, where the information can be thought of in a more practical, meaningful way.

The self-explanation principle was an important addition, where I encouraged the audience to generate their own explanation for the mode formula. This makes the audience think actively, pulling information from the explanations of the previous measures of central tendency. A multiple-choice question was then given before the explanation was made, so students could apply their learning.

The feedback principle was improved, where people could immediately see where they went wrong and also get an encouraging hint to help them identify the correct answer.

I used Behaviourism and the concept of Flow to keep my audience engaged. I added the graph to not only use the multimedia principle, but to also improve engagement with a visually appealing representation of the data. The multiple-choice activities were intrinsically rewarding. People want to see the green check mark and star once they answer a question; therefore, they are more inclined to engage in the material.

The Dual Coding theory ensured I did not overload one channel of information. I avoided reading off each piece of data that was already displayed on the screen. I only used textboxes to add additional context in support of what I was saying, ensuring I was not being redundant (redundancy principle).

Below is my improved H5P interactive video.
