Below is my instructional video that conforms to the multimedia learning principles, dual coding theory, and cognitive load theory.
Multimedia learning principles followed:
- Multimedia principle – I used an illustrative image and short text on the slides, followed by a more detailed narration.
- Modality principle – I ensured my audience could learn effectively by using graphics and narration.
- Redundancy principle – I made sure to avoid reading off the text of the slides so my audience could read it without being overloaded with one channel of information.
- Signalling principle – I made sure the most prominent feature of each slide was also the most important feature. In addition, I underlined the key words of each slide to emphasize importance.
- Segmenting principle – I presented my information in learner-based segments, focusing on one concept per slide.
- Worked examples principle – I began my presentation by describing how all people can relate to giving bad news and I described specific scenarios.
